Sixth Form Overview

Pupils in the Sixth form will leave with a toolbox of skills ready to access the world of work or further education. Pupils will gain knowledge and skills in English, Maths and ICT and work towards core Funcitonal Skills accreditations and Vocational BTECs.  The level of qualification will be matched to pupils learning levels.

Admission Criteria:

The Grove Sixth form caters for pupils with a primary diagnosis of autism with a range of associated learning difficulties. In the main, pupils will need to be working at Entry level 1 to Level 1 so that they can access the Sixth form curriculum and the variety of off site activities that include work experience. Pupils will need to be confident out and about in the community and will be able to work towards travel training and becoming more confident on public transport.

Key aims:

  • Pupils work towards independence in both their academic learning and their personal skills.
  • Pupils build on previous learning in all areas so that each individual becomes more prepared for the transition to adulthood.
  • Pupils acquire the tools to manage the daily challenges of life beyond school and preparation towards adulthood.

Additional Support:

  • Pupils work within the SCERTS framework to support their social communication and emotional regulation. Pupil will have access to a variety of transactional supports to enable learning.
  • Pupils will have access to OT and SALT input.
  • Pupils can be referred for Therapeutic services such as  Music or Art therapy.
